For a while now, my blog has been a space dedicated to straightforward content, focusing on topics rather than daily personal recounts. While I’m not entirely faceless, I typically steer clear of detailed day-to-day summaries. However, this Labor Day weekend was an exception – it was simply too good, even despite a lingering illness, not to immortalize its special moments here. It was a perfect blend of much-needed rest, cherished connections, and inspiring productivity that truly deserved to be shared.
Friday: A Gentle Start to the Long Weekend
The long weekend didn’t exactly kick off with a bang. I spent the entire week battling a stubborn sickness, culminating in an early bedtime on Friday night. After a day of blood tests and comforting sips of homemade bone broth, I surrendered to rest by 8 PM, hoping to recuperate fully for the days ahead. Recuperation was my top priority, and even though it meant missing out on Friday night fun, I knew my body would thank me.

Saturday: Farmers Market Finds & Melodic Evenings
Waking up late on Saturday, I still felt a little under the weather, but the lure of fresh, local produce was too strong to resist. I gathered my energy and headed straight to the Coppell Farmers Market, a vibrant hub of community and incredible artisanal goods. The market’s lively atmosphere and the promise of nourishing ingredients always lift my spirits. Despite not feeling 100%, the crisp morning air and the friendly faces of local vendors provided a much-needed boost.

My efforts were well rewarded with an excellent haul. I picked up six perfectly ripe peaches and four vibrant golden zucchinis, adding a touch of summer’s sweetness and color to my kitchen. The real gem of my visit, however, came from Livestock First Ranch, my absolute favorite local farmer. Their commitment to sustainable, high-quality meat is unparalleled. My meat basket included three pounds of nutrient-dense grass-fed ground beef, a six-pound grass-fed chuck roast perfect for slow cooking, an impressive thirteen pounds of beef bones for future batches of healing bone broth, three pounds of delicious pastured ground pork, and a fresh dozen eggs. Stocking up on these wholesome ingredients felt like an investment in my health and well-being, especially crucial while recovering.
The remainder of Saturday was spent prioritizing rest, as my body still craved recovery. However, the evening held a special engagement: a house concert hosted by my in-laws, featuring the incredibly talented band Pilgrim. My husband Daniel’s family are genuinely some of the coolest, most talented people I know. His cousin, Katie, and her husband, Aaron, form the heart of Pilgrim, creating truly amazing music that captivates and inspires. Their unique blend of folk and soulful melodies creates an unforgettable experience.
Katie and Aaron embody an incredible and inspiring philosophy: pursuing their passions wholeheartedly, right now. They’ve embraced a nomadic lifestyle, leaving their Nashville home to travel the country in their beautifully remodeled Airstream trailer with their daughter, playing shows and spreading their unique brand of cool wherever they go. Their journey is a powerful testament to living authentically and chasing dreams, a concept I deeply admire.

Of course, I couldn’t resist getting a picture to join in on the cool factor! It took a significant effort to look presentable after spending most of the day feeling unwell, but the energy of the concert and the joy of being with family made it worthwhile. The evening was a delightful blend of intimate musical performances, engaging conversations, and a relaxed atmosphere.

I snacked on juicy blueberries, sipped refreshing Pellegrino, and enjoyed the company of some of my favorite people. It was an all-around fantastic night, a beautiful way to balance recovery with connection and culture. The music, the company, and the comfortable setting created a perfect evening, a much-needed break from the week’s illness.

Sunday: Embracing Rest and Reflection
Sunday unfolded as another wonderfully chill day, perfectly designed for rejuvenation. It was a day dedicated to productive blog preparation, allowing me to organize thoughts and outline future content, ensuring my posts continue to be insightful and valuable. The emphasis, however, was still heavily on rest, giving my body the chance it needed to fully recover. The peaceful quiet of the day also provided the perfect backdrop for Bible study with my loving husband and our ever-present cat, a comforting ritual that brings us closer and grounds us in gratitude. These moments of quiet reflection and shared spiritual growth are truly precious.

You know you’ve truly had a lazy sick day when the only photo captured is of your beloved cat playfully holding onto your husband’s foot. It’s a charming snapshot that perfectly encapsulates the relaxed, unhurried pace of our Sunday, a testament to the fact that sometimes, the best days are the ones spent simply being, surrounded by comfort and companionship. The image, while lighthearted, also highlights the deep comfort and affection we share as a family, including our furry member.
Monday: Passion Projects & Productive Pursuits
Labor Day Monday was consciously designated as a day for passion projects for both Daniel and me. We decided to embrace a productive yet relaxed approach to the holiday. Our first stop was Method Coffee downtown, a spot renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and excellent brews, providing the ideal setting for focused work. We settled in, ready to dive into our individual creative and professional pursuits. The hum of the coffee shop, coupled with the delicious aromas, created an inspiring environment for deep work.

Daniel savored a soothing lavender latte, while I kicked off my day by meticulously editing some exciting new photos. These shots were for my upcoming AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) pumpkin spice latte and AIP pumpkin muffins recipes, both of which I’m incredibly eager to share with my readers. Developing and perfecting these recipes, which cater to specific dietary needs without compromising on flavor, is a true passion of mine. The editing process allows me to present these creations in the best light possible, making them even more appealing.
Another truly fulfilling project I immersed myself in was assisting my CrossFit gym. I was tasked with compiling comprehensive nutrition and food shopping information for their highly anticipated Whole Life Challenge. This kind of work genuinely excites me; I love translating complex nutritional science into practical, actionable advice that can empower people to make healthier choices. Sharing my knowledge to support the community’s wellness goals is incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait for everyone to benefit from these resources. I made significant progress on this project while enjoying a calming cup of hibiscus tea, finding inspiration in the quiet dedication to my work.

Leaving the coffee shop, I must have still been in that chic, “blogger working at a coffee shop” mindset. I found myself taking another “pretend to be cool” photo, this time sporting a stylish Wildfox jumper. The only catch? It was still a scorching 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside! That sweater didn’t last long, needless to say. Seriously, is it fall yet? This relatable fashion dilemma brought a touch of humor to the end of a very productive day, highlighting my eagerness for cooler weather and cozy autumn vibes.

Upon returning home, my stomach still felt a little sensitive, signaling a continued need for gentle, nourishing food. Fortunately, I had a fresh batch of bone broth on hand, made from the very beef bones I’d purchased at the farmers market on Saturday. I simply added some tender stew meat and sweet parsnips, creating a hearty yet easily digestible dinner. This meal was not only delicious but also incredibly restorative, providing my body with the nutrients it needed to continue healing. It’s a perfect example of how simple, whole ingredients can be transformed into deeply comforting and healing dishes.

I ended the day with a simple yet symbolic treat: a bowl of frozen cherries. This sweet and refreshing snack served as a perfect commemoration of the last official day of summer, bidding farewell to the season with a delicious burst of flavor. It was a small, quiet moment of reflection, appreciating the transition of seasons and the promise of what autumn holds.

All in all, this Labor Day weekend, despite its somewhat rocky start, evolved into a truly great, restful, and surprisingly productive period. I’m incredibly excited to share all the new recipes and resources I prepped and developed over these few days. Most importantly, I’m deeply thankful for the invaluable time I had to rest, recover, and rejuvenate after a challenging week of sickness. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of listening to your body and embracing moments of calm alongside passion and purpose.
