My Bold Leap From Corporate to Full-Time Nutrition Entrepreneur and Blogger

The very idea of departing from the conventional career path once filled me with trepidation, yet here I am, having taken that monumental step. Like many, I was raised in a world that meticulously charted a predetermined course for success: aspire to be a firefighter, a doctor, a corporate executive from childhood, endure the relentless pressure of college applications from high school, and ultimately, secure a stable 9-to-5 job to validate one’s life achievements. I diligently followed this blueprint: I pursued higher education, secured a valuable internship, and landed a full-time position that I genuinely enjoyed and where much of my identity resided. However, despite the comfort and familiarity, an insistent whisper urged me towards a different path. Last week, I answered that call. I resigned from my full-time role to dedicate myself entirely to expanding my nutrition business and nurturing my health blog, Unbound Wellness.

The Genesis of a New Path: From Illness to Inspiration

My senior year of high school was a period of both conformity and profound divergence. It mirrored the experiences of my peers in the frantic scramble of college applications, grueling SAT preparations, and grappling with life-altering decisions I felt far too young to make. However, my journey took an unexpected and challenging turn when I began to experience debilitating Hashimoto’s symptoms, which remained undiagnosed for the better part of the academic year. The severity of my condition often left me too ill to attend school without the risk of fainting, relegating me to my bed for extended periods. It was during these isolated days, while browsing online for distractions like Forever 21, Etsy, and Facebook, that fate intervened. I serendipitously stumbled upon a health blog – my very first encounter with such a platform – and in that moment, my perspective irrevocably shifted. An undeniable clarity emerged: this was my calling. I envisioned myself writing, creating content, and empowering individuals online, all in the service of health and well-being. My deepest desire was to guide others through the very struggles I was enduring, but in a way that was both creative and engaging. At seventeen, confined to my bed amidst an autoimmune flare, my purpose became crystal clear.

Following my official Hashimoto’s diagnosis, I plunged into an obsessive pursuit of knowledge about nutrition. This fervent interest led me to enroll at Texas Women’s University with the intention of studying dietetics and becoming a Registered Dietitian. Little did I know that this academic path, while well-intentioned, would inadvertently stifle my innate creativity and leave me feeling profoundly adrift. The structured, often rigid framework of traditional dietetics felt at odds with the dynamic and expressive medium I had discovered. Perhaps, I began to ponder, it wasn’t just nutrition itself, but the digital communication aspect of this burgeoning online world that had truly captivated me?

Embracing this new insight, I pivoted my academic focus, ultimately completing my degree in Emerging Media and Communication. This decision propelled me into a stimulating career in digital marketing within an internet ministry. The work was challenging, immensely enjoyable, and deeply rewarding. I reveled in the opportunity to leverage digital platforms to connect with and serve people, reinforcing my belief that my purpose lay in online empowerment. Yet, despite my satisfaction, that persistent pull towards nutrition resurfaced, an echo of my original passion that refused to be silenced.

Driven by this unyielding intuition, I soon returned to my studies, this time at the esteemed Nutritional Therapy Association. It was during this period that the seeds of Unbound Wellness were truly sown. Piece by piece, day by day, my vision for a holistic health business and blog began to materialize, a direct manifestation of the calling I had always felt. The growth was organic and incremental, transforming from a modest audience of tens to hundreds, then thousands, and eventually tens of thousands and beyond. I started building my own client practice, authored my first e-book, and with each milestone, the dream of pursuing Unbound Wellness as a full-time career solidified. Finally, after years of dedicated effort and unwavering commitment, I made the exhilarating leap.

Years of unwavering dedication, propelled by passion, culminated in the courageous decision to embrace Unbound Wellness as my primary pursuit, stepping away from a conventional full-time role.

The Unseen Struggle: The Profound Difficulty of Letting Go

As I’ve shared, my full-time job at the internet ministry was far more than just a paycheck; it was a passion. I deeply admired the mission and felt a profound connection to the work I was doing. The decision to leave was anything but easy; in fact, it was agonizing. On my last day, the thought of walking out of that office made me feel physically ill, as if I might actually vomit. It took me months of intense deliberation, countless internal battles, and tearful nights to finally commit to the separation. I wrestled with overwhelming guilt, questioned my sanity, and faced an emotional gauntlet that was truly, exceptionally hard. Paradoxically, I felt incredibly blessed to have had something so meaningful in my life that its departure caused such profound anguish. This feeling underscored the depth of my connection to my former role and the people I worked with.

Stepping away from a path that society not only approves of but actively encourages is an inherently challenging endeavor. Before I embarked on this journey, a part of me believed that breaking free from the societal norm would be an instantly liberating, glamorous, and straightforward transition. The reality, however, proved to be starkly different. From the outside looking in, every entrepreneurial success story, every daring leap, always appears a million times easier than it actually is. While an undeniable, powerful force pulled me towards this entirely different pursuit, it did not, in any way, diminish the difficulty of disengaging from my established and accepted routine. The comfort of the known, the security of a steady paycheck, and the validation of a traditional career all presented formidable obstacles to overcome. Sometimes, to construct the life you truly envision, to bring your most cherished dreams to fruition, you must be willing to take an enormous, terrifying leap of faith, even when every fiber of your being resists. And that, ultimately, is what I did.

Strategic Growth: Building Unbound Wellness While Navigating the Present

It’s crucial to acknowledge a fundamental truth: I am not yet earning a full-time salary exclusively from Unbound Wellness. My journey into entrepreneurship has been a gradual, deliberate ascent. I’ve been immersed in the world of online “side hustling” since I was sixteen, developing a keen understanding of monetization strategies and becoming quite adept at generating supplemental income. While earning a little extra cash on the side, especially when it involves activities you genuinely enjoy, can feel relatively easy, transitioning that into a sustainable, full-time income is an entirely different beast. Although Unbound Wellness has reached a significant point of momentum, where I feel like I’m truly hitting my stride, you won’t find my name gracing any lists of top internet entrepreneurs in the immediate future. This is a journey that requires patience, strategy, and consistent effort.

There comes a pivotal moment in the life of any burgeoning business owner when you’ve built a substantial foundation, achieving a significant percentage of your goals, and a thought persistently echoes: “If only I had more time…” For me, that moment arrived while I was working a demanding 40-hour-a-week job, only to return home each evening and dedicate every weekend to Unbound Wellness. I was undeniably gaining traction, meticulously laying the groundwork for my dream, but I desperately needed more bandwidth. My progress was being constrained by the limits of my available hours. So, I took decisive action: I created more time.

Rather than making an immediate, all-or-nothing dive into Unbound Wellness, I opted for a more measured and strategic approach. My current strategy involves scaling back my professional commitments, engaging in freelance work, and maintaining a part-time schedule. This hybrid model affords me the invaluable gift of increased time to pour into my dream venture. As I mentioned, I genuinely enjoy and am proficient at side hustling. This allows me to remain active in the digital marketing and ministry space, an area I also deeply appreciate, while simultaneously allocating substantially more hours throughout the week to develop and nurture Unbound Wellness. It’s a carefully crafted balance that supports both my financial stability and my entrepreneurial aspirations.

A Glimpse into My Evolving Work Week: Balancing Passion and Practicality

  • Monday & Tuesday: My week begins with eight hours dedicated to in-office marketing responsibilities. Following this, I spend a couple of hours at home diligently responding to emails and meticulously following up with Unbound Wellness clients, ensuring continuous engagement and support.
  • Wednesday: This day offers a thoughtful blend of activities. I dedicate four hours to in-office marketing, followed by another four hours working from home on freelance digital marketing projects, diversifying my skill set and income streams.
  • Thursday: The focus shifts significantly towards my entrepreneurial pursuits. Four hours are spent on freelance digital marketing, providing continued flexibility. The remaining four hours are solely devoted to Unbound Wellness, where I concentrate on crafting compelling blog posts and working directly with my valued clients.
  • Friday: This day is entirely dedicated to the growth and development of Unbound Wellness. I immerse myself for eight hours in creative endeavors such as innovative recipe development, capturing stunning food photography, writing impactful blog content, and strategic product development, all crucial for expanding my brand.
  • Saturday & Sunday: The ambitious hope for these days is to finally embrace rest! 😛 After a packed and productive week, I aim to recharge and enjoy personal time, a vital component of sustainable entrepreneurship.

And, of course, every single day is punctuated by generous servings of energizing matcha, nourishing bone broth, and an abundance of comforting cat snuggles – small, yet essential rituals that fuel both body and soul on this incredible journey.

A vibrant green mug of matcha tea rests beside a black and white notebook, hinting at moments of reflection and planning amidst a busy schedule.

Currently, I’m only a few days into this exciting new lifestyle, so there’s still much to observe regarding how all these elements coalesce and unfold. Nevertheless, my spirit is buoyed by immense hope and an overwhelming sense of excitement for the future!

The Horizon of Unbound Wellness: Charting Future Growth

If I were to reveal every single detail of Unbound Wellness’s future trajectory, I’d have to “gluten” you – which, in this corner of the internet, is akin to a serious breach of trust! 😛 But truly, the possibilities are boundless; the sky is the absolute limit for what we can achieve.

Exciting Endeavors: What’s on My Current Work List and Dream Board

While the full scope of my plans remains under wraps, I can enthusiastically share some concrete projects I’m actively pursuing and ambitious dreams I’m meticulously cultivating:

  • Enhanced Content Production: My aim is to consistently deliver two high-quality blog posts per week, a significant increase from our previous schedule. This will allow for a richer array of content, including more innovative recipes, deeper dives into managing Hashimoto’s, and comprehensive wellness guides, providing even greater value to our community.
  • Innovations for the 30-Day Gut Healing Diet Plan & Guide: I am diligently working on integrating new features and expanding the content of our popular 30-Day Gut Healing Diet Plan & Guide. These enhancements will provide an even more robust and supportive framework for individuals on their journey to optimal gut health.
  • Development of a Major New Product: Keep an eye out for a significant new product launch in the future. This will be a comprehensive offering designed to address a critical need within our wellness community, representing a substantial step forward for Unbound Wellness.
  • Strategic Collaborations with Fellow Bloggers: I am actively seeking and fostering collaborations with other influential health and wellness bloggers. These partnerships will enable us to reach new audiences, share diverse perspectives, and create synergistic content that benefits everyone involved.
  • In-Person Group Programs and Public Speaking Engagements: A major personal and professional goal of mine is to develop and host in-person group programs. Furthermore, I aspire to engage in public speaking, sharing my story and expertise to inspire and educate broader audiences face-to-face.
  • Launching a Podcast: This is another significant aspiration! I dream of creating a podcast that offers insightful discussions, interviews with experts, and practical advice to further empower our community. P.S. I’m currently accepting applications for potential co-hosts – if you’re passionate about wellness and a great conversationalist, let’s connect! 😉

Empowering Your Own Dream: Practical Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

In this incredible era, we are privileged to live in a world where the power to manifest our own dreams rests firmly in our hands. If you resonate with my story, it’s likely you’ve also felt that compelling pull towards a passion-driven life. Allow me to offer some insights garnered from my own journey, a roadmap for those contemplating their own leap:

1. The Time is NOW: Initiate Action Without Delay

Resist the temptation to defer your dreams until conditions are “perfect.” Whether you believe you need another certification, to complete a degree, or simply more time, I urge you to begin today. I launched Unbound Wellness amidst the whirlwind of wedding planning and while holding down a demanding full-time job. I meticulously built it through academic pursuits and various consulting gigs. The reality is, there will never be a truly “perfect” time. Start now, however imperfectly, and future you will undoubtedly be profoundly grateful for your courage and initiative.

2. Embrace the Journey: Patience is Your Most Valuable Asset

It’s important to temper expectations with a healthy dose of reality. While you might encounter anecdotes of some bloggers achieving six-figure incomes within a couple of years, this narrative represents a minority, and certainly not my experience. Similarly, while some manage to launch e-books in a single month, my own took a dedicated six months to bring to fruition. Whatever your entrepreneurial endeavor, anticipate that it will likely demand more time, effort, and resilience than you initially estimate. Success is rarely an overnight phenomenon; it’s the culmination of consistent, persistent effort over time.

3. Forge Connections: The Indispensable Power of Networking

One of the most enriching aspects of building Unbound Wellness has been the incredible community that has rallied around me, a network I also actively strive to support. Proactively reach out to others who are thriving in areas you aspire to enter. Instead of merely asking to “pick their brain,” approach these interactions with a genuine desire to understand how you can contribute to their mission or collaborate on a shared cause. Cultivate authentic friendships, nurture meaningful connections, and never shy away from fearlessly initiating conversations. Your network is not just a safety net; it’s a launchpad for future opportunities and a source of invaluable support and inspiration.

4. Navigate Transitions with Grace and Integrity

In all your professional transitions, prioritize grace and avoid burning bridges. Never allow success or ambition to lead you to believe you are “too good” for anyone or any role. I am committed to maintaining a positive and ongoing relationship with my former full-time employer and continue to work with long-standing consulting clients whom I’ve served for years. Approaching your career shifts with respect, professionalism, and integrity not only preserves your reputation but also keeps doors open for future collaborations and opportunities. Grace in departure speaks volumes about your character.

5. Unleash Your Own Potential: The Only Limit is Yourself

Few things frustrate me more than hearing people inquire, “So, if you have these specific credentials or those particular goals, what exactly can you *do* with that?” My unequivocal answer: who truly cares what others claim you can or cannot achieve? The path of writing e-books and becoming a nutritional therapist was certainly not a bulleted option on the brochure when I pursued my digital marketing degree. Yet, it was what I passionately desired to do, so I proactively sought out and created the means to achieve it.

Never permit the beliefs of others, the past accomplishments of others, or the perceived limitations of others to dictate the scope of your own aspirations. The foundational belief that has guided my entire journey as a creative and an entrepreneur is this: if you aspire to be an expert in your field, then become the expert. Dedicate yourself to acquiring the necessary knowledge, commit to doing the essential work, and channel your energy into creating what needs to be created. The only true limiting factor in realizing your full potential is your own willingness to put in the effort required to become the person you envision.

In essence, what I’m truly conveying is an overwhelming sense of excitement, boundless gratitude, and an unwavering readiness to dedicate every necessary effort to bring my cherished dream to its fullest realization. My heartfelt thanks go out to each of you for your unwavering support, continuous inspiration, and invaluable friendship <3 I eagerly anticipate providing you with even more impactful content and resources as Unbound Wellness continues to flourish!
